Friday the 13th

Lady Luck Illustration by Sweet E Art + Design

Fun fact: All of lady luck's tattoos in this illustration are symbols of luck

Friday the 13th is a superstition that the 13th day of a month falling on a Friday is considered to be unlucky. The origins of this superstition are unclear, but the number 13 is considered unlucky in many cultures, which may have contributed to the superstition. The fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskevidekatriaphobia or friggatriskaidekaphobia. Try saying those three times fast (or even at all haha)!

Symbols of luck are objects or images that are believed to bring good fortune or protect against bad luck. These symbols can vary greatly depending on culture and tradition, but some common examples include:

  • Four-leaf clover: a symbol of good luck that is often associated with the idea of finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

  • Horseshoe: a symbol of good luck that is often associated with the idea of protection from evil spirits and bad luck.

  • Dreamcatcher: a symbol of good luck that is often associated with the idea of catching good dreams and filtering out bad ones.

  • The number 8: Considered lucky number in many cultures because the word for "eight" sounds similar to the word for "prosper" or "wealth" in Chinese.

  • The number 7: Considered lucky number in many cultures because it's believed to be a "perfect" number.

  • The number 9: Considered lucky number in many cultures because it's believed to be the highest single digit number and therefore symbolizes completeness and finality.

  • The Maneki-neko (Japanese for "beckoning cat"): A figurine of a cat with one or both paws raised which is believed to bring good luck to the owner.

These are just a few examples of symbols of luck, and there are many more that exist in different cultures and traditions around the world.

Friday the 13th tattoos are tattoos that are typically done on the 13th day of the month when it falls on a Friday. This practice has become popular among tattoo enthusiasts who believe that getting a tattoo on this day will bring good luck and protection from bad luck. Some people may choose to get a tattoo that is specifically related to the superstition of Friday the 13th, such as a tattoo of a black cat or a tattoo of the number 13. Others may choose to get any tattoo of their choice on this day as a way to celebrate it. It's worth noting that some people may also get tattoos on Friday the 13th as a way to challenge the superstition and prove that they are not afraid of the day.
